Accountants Armed with Hammers and Power Drills Help Build a Future for a  Local Family

Boca Raton, FL...Saturday morning November 4th, the accountants and staff of Goldstein Lewin & Co. woke up early to put in a full days work at the construction site.  The nine dedicated volunteers were building a house today for a local family in need.  It was a hot day and though the manual work was hard for a group who would generally be working on laptops in an air conditioned office, you would never know it from the smiles on their faces.

"There are families in this community who don't have a home.  Their children have nowhere to sleep.  We're here today as a community to help these people make a fresh start."  smiled JoAnne Mayz, Controller for Goldstein Lewin & Co, as she pounded a nail into the frame of the new home.

The staff of Goldstein Lewin came together with other concerned members of the community and Habitat for Humanity to make a real difference for one Boynton Beach family. Goldstein Lewin & Co. provided lunch and drinks for the hard working crew as they constructed the new home.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit organization seeking to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world.  Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor -- sweat equity -- into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
