Infrastructure development in Southeast Asia and particularly in Thailand has sustained and supported fast economic growth and well being of the people over the past few decades. Investment in, and construction of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, railways, airports, seaports, power systems, and water and sewerage systems have contributed significantly to the sustainable development of the region.

IABSE wishes to provide a forum for leading academics and practitioners from around the world on how to achieve sustainable infrastructure. A sustainable infrastructure must fulfil the present societal needs whilst reducing the impacts on future generations by integrating materials and methods that promote environmental quality, resource efficiency, economic vitality and public safety through its design, construction and operation. The Structural Engineer has an important impact on sustainable infrastructure through planning, design, construction, operation, renovation, retrofitting and repairs.

A free Public Session in the afternoon of September 9, will highlight the 80th Anniversary of IABSE with invited prominent speakers from academy, industry and organisations such as the Asian Concrete Federation (ACF), the International Committee on Concrete Model Code (ICCMC) and the Vietnam Concrete Association (VAT). Special guest and speaker includes also Paul Hugentobler, Member of the Holcim Group Executive Committee.

The International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) is a scientific and technical association founded in 1929 with its seat at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. It has members in 100 countries and 50 National Groups around the world. The mission of IABSE is to promote the exchange of knowledge and to advance the practice of structural engineering worldwide, in the service of the profession and society.
