From the Last Frontier, where anything goes, comes a calendar seemingly to wild, even by Alaska standards. The Wild Honey Calendar, which shows women fishing and hunting in bikinis and contains no nudity, has been banned from advertising in major metro newspapers, such as the Juneau Empire and the Ketchikan Daily News, shunned from Local TV and Radio Stations. Even snubbed from advertising in hunting and fishing publications such as the Outdoor News.
“We are up against a brick wall trying to advertise and promote the calendar,” says Vicki Priebe. People call the calendar sexist and unethical but nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, our company, Wild Honey Productions, is one of the only ones in Alaska that provides modeling opportunities for young women and pays them well. Second of all, women are our biggest customers, praising our company for making such a unique gift for their hard to buy for husbands, brothers, and even sons.
As far as the unethical issue is concerned, that is also inaccurate. We buy hunting and fishing licenses, which benefit a wide variety of wildlife. We utilize all our game animals. We teach people to utilize their game animals by providing wild game recipes. We also contribute to organizations such as Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, etc.
The Priebes came up with the calendar idea as a way to earn a little extra money to install a water well at their home. The Priebes say, “It has been an uphill battle all the way.” We even have ministers calling and harassing us, wanting our address. “I mean what are they wanting to do”, says Priebe, “send us a bomb?”
The Priebes sell their calendar through their online store for $8.45 each + S&H, www.wildhoneycalendar.com . If you’d like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview with Vicki Priebe, please call 907-495-5020 or email
