2008 Indie Book Award Winners Announced

The year's best indie books have been chosen by the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group.

Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group has named the winners of the 2008 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The grand-prizing winning books, authors, and publishers are:

Top Fiction Books

First Place Winner ($1,000 Prize)
Zublinka Among Women, by Robert Wexelblatt (KenArnold Books, LLC)

Second Place Winner ($500 Prize)
The Pale Surface of Things, by Janey Bennett (Hopeace Press)

Third Place Winner ($250 Prize)
Moondance, by Karen M. Black (Ricochet Publishing)

Top Non-Fiction Books

First Place Winner ($1,000 Prize)
Lines of Velocity: Words that Move from WriteGirl, by Keren Taylor (WriteGirl Publications)

Second Place Winner ($500 Prize)
Spiritual Capitalism: How 9/11 Gave us Nine Spiritual Lessons of Work and Business, by Peter Ressler and Monika Mitchell Ressler (Chilmark Books)

Third Place Winner ($250 Prize)
Who’s Behind the Fairy Doors?, by Jonathan B. Wright (Urban Fairies Operations, LLC)

Indie books were also named as winners and finalists in publishing categories ranging from Action/Adventure to Young Adult. The top 70 books in the 2008 Indie Book Awards will be reviewed by New York literary agent Marilyn Allen of Allen O’Shea Literary Agency or one of Ms. Allen’s co-agents for possible representation in areas such as distribution, foreign rights, film rights, and other rights.  

About the Winning Books

Zublinka Among Women, by Robert Wexelblatt, is an intelligent, witty, and humorous work that will have you thinking with every turn of the page.

The Pale Surface of Things, by Janey Bennett, is a recommended read full of realistic characters that draw you into their world.

Moondance, by Karen M. Black, is an engaging and original work built brilliantly around New Age spiritualism.

Lines of Velocity: Words that Move from WriteGirl, by Keren Taylor, is an innovative anthology that allows young women to express their hopes and fears in their own words.

Spiritual Capitalism: How 9/11 Gave us Nine Spiritual Lessons of Work and Business, by Peter Ressler and Monika Mitchell Ressler, shows that business can create meaning and purpose as well as money and profit.

Who’s Behind the Fairy Doors?, by Jonathan B. Wright, is a wonderfully whimsical and fun book.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The awards program is open to fiction and nonfiction books from independent authors and publishers worldwide released in 2008 or 2009 or with a copyright date of 2008 or 2009.
